‘London by the sea’—Brighton and Hove has it all, the ocean, the beach and a never-ending supply of cool and quirky shops, vegan zero-waste cafes and bustling fresh seafood restaurants, everyone just seems a bit cooler in this town. The houses are pretty special too, Regency crescents with rows of cream painted terraces all with ornate ironwork and balconies looking out to sea. This new Shaker kitchen project is perfectly simple and worked so well in the newly extended kitchen of a pretty Victorian terrace in Hove. Lots of contemporary touches in amongst the many beautiful original features of this home, it’s this mix of styles that we always love so much at deVOL. The bespoke olive green paint on the cupboards is a soft, calm and classic choice and mixed with pale Silestone worktops it creates another clever mix of traditional and modern elements.
The garden was an absolute gem, three ancient olive trees trimmed down so they could make it through the house during the renovation, they were gnarly and so Mediterranean it would be easy to transport yourself to a Spanish olive grove if you didn’t have Brighton, squawking seagulls and the sea minutes away. An exceptionally well finished concrete floor, some stunning lighting choices and really simple tasteful crockery and kitchen paraphernalia have made this Shaker kitchen a favourite with our younger customers who want to show restraint and style in their homes. Knocking out the back of a Victorian terrace is generally the best solution when renovating, get rid of an old dark and very small kitchen and swap it for a bright open space with plenty of glass and a little garden that becomes a part of your kitchen once the sun shines. Easy, modern and stylish, the Hove Kitchen is what you would hope for if you walked into a home in this uber-cool city by the sea.
The worktop in this Shaker Kitchen is Lagoon Silestone, a super resilient quartz stone material that is very scratch-resistant and non-porous, meaning it will stay in the same pristine condition years after having it fitted! The pale stone looks lovely against the dark olive hand painted kitchen cupboards, and it all works beautifully with the brass hardware.
This dark olive green paint colour was a bespoke shade that we mixed specifically for this customer and we can't quite believe how great it looks! It's rich and classic and yet it also feels so stylish and contemporary. The Bella Brass hardware and aged brass Ionian tap by deVOL and Perrin and Rowe are lovely bright touches to the room.
We love integrated appliances, they keep the room feeling so simple and uncluttered. This dark olive hand painted green cupboards transform the kitchen into a living area. Hidden behind these lovely doors is the family's fridge, freezer and pantry.
This seaside home was bright and welcoming, and the dark olive paint colour was such a clever choice. It looks classic and yet also so stylish and it works perfectly with the Lagoon silestone worktop, a scratch-resistant worktop that looks similar to marble.
This home had been carefully renovated and the kitchen was transformed from a dark little kitchen into a bright, light and spacious room to cook, entertain and socialise.
We love mixing old and new and this house did this so well. The original features of the home worked well with the more contemporary touches, like the simple hanging pendant bulbs.
Crittall style windows and doors are so popular at the moment and we can see why, they let in lots of lovely light and also add a cool industrial feel to the room. We think they work really well with the dark olive painted cabinets and the polished concrete floor.
The cooker run is long and has plenty of drawers and cupboards, perfect for storing kitchenware. Opposite the range cooker is the sink, fitted into the kitchen island. The Bella Brass hardware and aged brass tap, made in collaboration with Perrin and Rowe, work wonderfully with the olive paint and add a lovely bright addition to the room. And just look at those amazing Crittall style windows and doors!
A classic Belfast sink was fitted into this chunky Shaker kitchen island, with an aged brass Ionian tap by deVOL and Perrin and Rowe. Above the island are three simple hanging pendant bulbs, a cool contemporary styling choice that also still feels understated.
This long Shaker kitchen island provides lots of extra storage space for the family's pots, pans, kitchenware and houses the Belfast sink. It also gives plenty of extra prep space for the owners and you could easily pull up a stool and turn it into a lovely breakfast seating area too. The worktop is Lagoon Silestone, a pale quartz that looks similar to marble and is very resilient. It is scratch-resistant, non-porous and doesn't etch.
