elementalKitchen by Charlie Smallbone and deVOL
After many years of renovating and restoring, we are finally able to open up some of the most beautiful rooms at Cotes Mill to our customers as new showrooms. There are three connecting rooms on the ground floor of the old mill house that we have worked on for over six months and at last, they are open. The images above are the main kitchen, there is a further scullery soon to be photographed and a dining room all connecting and open to customers. We have kept beams with the original paint on, we have laid an amazingly authentic terracotta floor from our sister company Floors of Stone and stripped the walls and doors back to their original glory.
We have fitted furniture from our Classic English range into this new showroom, the cupboards that deVOL began making all those years ago. They are bespoke and handmade in Loughborough, they are hand-painted and the look is traditional Georgian, these beautifully simple cupboards are made to last a lifetime.
This glazed island is a new look for us and we really love it. We have only made it once before, back when we designed Pearl Lowe's kitchen but the design stuck in our minds and we knew it would be perfect in our new Classic English kitchen in the Mill House at our Cotes Mill showroom. It has been painted in Damask, a cool off-white colour from our collection, and finished with some of our handmade brass knobs. The worktop is stained, glossy Iroko wood and is the perfect finishing touch to this lovely centre piece.
We have recently launched a new collection of porcelain pendant lights and we thought it would be lovely to have them on show in our new Classic English kitchen in the Mill House. They are delicate and elegant and look beautiful with all the other features in the room. The flooring is by Floors of Stone, our sister company, and looks completely authentic to this 500 year old room. Here is another lovely view of our glazed island and you can spot the integrated Smeg oven, we love to keep appliances integrated because it really helps to keep the room feeling simple and free of clutter.
The back wall has been covered in our brand new Crackle Metro Tiles and we couldn't be happier with how they look. Metro tiles have been a classic choice of splashback or wall design for so long and our new collection feels like a contemporary take on this style. They are all handmade by Claire, deVOL's resident potter, in the Cotes Mill ceramics studio so each one is unique and totally beautiful. A Smeg gas hob has been installed and one of our Pot Filler taps, made in collaboration with Perrin and Rowe, sits neatly on the wall behind. A pot filler tap is such a handy little gadget to have in your kitchen if you're a keen cook or like effifiency!
The kitchen that was fitted in this room had to be special to suit the rest of the beautifully old, historic building. The lattice windows are a wonderful feature in themselves and they look even better with the Carrara marble worktop and one of our new Carrara marble sinks, finished off with an Aged Brass Ionian style tap, made by deVOL and Perrin and Rowe. In the corner you can spy one of our aged brass hanging rails, a lovely addition to a kitchen, perfect for hanging pots, pans, any piece of kitchenware you like really.
One end of this chunky island has glazed cabinets, the other side has closed storage and an integrated oven and there is also a seating area, surrounded with our new Helen's Stools. They're small, understated and a lovely addition to any room that won't steal the attention but just add a little bit of subtle beauty.
Here are a couple of Curiosity Cupboards by deVOL that we have popped in the corner of our new Classic English kitchen. They are opened by lock and key and are the perfect piece of furniture to display all of your favourites bits and pieces. They are a little bit different because our resident artist, Rosie, has painted the back panels with beautiful branches, leaves and flowers. It looks so wonderful against the simple outside, painted in Damask, a shade in our own collection.
A closer look at the branches, leaves and flowers that have been hand-painted by deVOL's own decorative artist, Rosie. We think this is such a lovely way to make a piece of furniture even more special and totally unique. We are actually hoping to offer this service to our customers so do get in touch if you are interested.
Inspired by old museum display cabinets, this freestanding glazed Curiosity Cupboard is designed to house unusual and interesting objects and is also a curiosity in itself. It is made even more special by the hand-painted leaves, branches and flowers, all done by deVOL's resident artist, Rosie.
