ted gibson salon, New York

The client’s had a clear objective; to create “a minimalist space for men and women to escape the chaos and rush of city life”. In the main space restored 19th century crown moldings coexist with a linear row of stainless steel styling stations, the large mirrors reflect all of the activity, motion and colors creating a huge presence. A large frosted glass partition embossed with a subtle orchid pattern, the companies logo, separates the stations from the more private rear areas. As you pass the partition the lights dim and the scale of the environment changes to feel more intimate. In the rear two walnut clad volumes house a shampoo area and a treatment room. Other unique design features are the 16 foot partition wall clad with wave textured plaster panels which greets clients as they exit the elevator and the dramatic custom designed 14 foot bench with a slot down the middle to house magazines.
