Our initial consultation with the client ‘unlocked’ the development potential of this prominent corner plot and ‘paved the way’ to a unique ‘dream self build home’. Our proposal was to firstly raise funds for the self build by ‘maximising’ the value of the plot by obtaining planning approval to convert the existing family house into 2 self contained contemporary flats. These were built and sold at the height of the housing market. Planning Approval was successfully obtained for a self build energy efficient contemporary 4 bed/4 bath family home.
It’s most striking feature must be it’s strong sensual three dimensional curve that works both in plan and elevation to achieve a smooth line that binds the site and starts at 2.4m high and finishes at 5.9m high in line with the eaves of the existing house. The building is therefore intended to gently ‘rise out of the ground’ achieving a smoother relationship between ground and first floor rather than a straightforward first floor mass above ground floor level, thus the building takes the corner resulting in a highly sculptural form.
