This school is known as the ‘school that works’. With an educational vision that gives proud pre-vocational secondary/practical education users their own place in the school and, therefore, their own place in society. A unique school within this context with a challenging mission that is translated into unique terms of reference at a unique location.
The school becomes the main building within the axis of the knowledge campus in our vision with regard to the whole assignment. The schoolyard is the ‘end point’ of the route and will be a true square in which to meet and stay with meaning for the whole of the knowledge campus.
Cyclists arrive at the school from the a central route over the campus or directly from Zandlaan and will find the bicycle shed under the school. The schoolyard will, thus, be completely free from vehicle and bicycle traffic. The building embraces the schoolyard and, therefore, it is given a natural function as a place to meet and stay close to the sports fields where you can kick a ball around during breaks. The entrance to the school can be found adjoining the schoolyard. The front offices that can be accessed inside from the ‘village square’ can also become visible because of the transparent ground floor. If required, a direct entrance to a number of front offices can also be used from the schoolyard and, therefore, this also becomes an enjoyable ‘village square’ for the Knowledge Campus. The ground floor will be given large timber fronts that will ensure it has a natural but business-like personality and that will offer students the opportunity of working while learning and learning while working in interaction with their environment.
