No.11 'The stripwood series'

'The stripwood series' is an evolving collection of bespoke, unique and handmade pieces of furniture which play on the tension between reclaimed and new materials. We find it particularly interesting to use the scarred and attacked surfaces of heavily weathered wood and force them to fit into a modern groomed framework but without diminishing the unique character of the material.

The no.11 side board is aimed at homes craving for some authenticity and warmth from natural materials. We produced this piece using reclaimed wood we gathered from a building site. Natural ageing over time has beautifully weathered the pieces of wood which resulted in their rustic textures. These colours, scars, shading and traces are remainders of a former life, they are glimpses of the woods prequel so to speak. Therefore, apart from shaping the material into modern strips to enhance the design of the piece, we have interfered with the surface of the wood as little as possible.

It combines both reclaimed wood and modern materials and consists of 6 varied sized doors with 4 drawers, all fitted with high end push to open fixings by Blum tip-on motion. The sideboard is a bespoke handmade made piece of furniture, hand painted with a satin light grey paint and is fitted with retro mid-century style steel hairpin legs.

The no. 11 side board has since been developed to incorporate further customisation, introducing hints of bold colours and adding matching handles on the doors and drawers.

This side board is aimed at homes craving for some authenticity and warmth from a natural material. We produced this piece using elements of weathered wood gathered from a building site. Natural ageing over time has beautifully weathered the wood providing the rustic textures pictured. The colours, "scars" and the traces of time in the material show the story of the old wood. Apart from cutting the modern strip shapes to add to the functionality of the piece of furniture, we have tried to interfere with the surface of the wood as little as possible in order to preserve the natural beauty, structure and different shades of the wood.

This particular version of the no. 11 sideboard was created through close consultation with the client who's brief was to create a very unique and personalised feature piece for her dining room. She wanted us to use pieces of wood which she had around the house and garden and incorporate these within the design.
