This project is a 1200m2 roof garden situated at the core of a flagship residential development, over the ground floor car park. The large central lawn is held in place by the dramatic sweep of a pale gravel path, punctuated by cedar pergolas and a circular pool. Lush planting completes the enclosed and comfortable feel of the place.
The site is bounded by semi-mature trees situated on the banks at the lower level. These provide a subtle backdrop to the more exuberant planting above.
In terms of design this communal space needed to provide usable green space for the residents in the apartments enclosing it, but also and almost more importantly, it had to make a strong visual statement when viewed from above, giving a positive green heart to the whole development.
Bowles & Wyer were involved with the site since 1998 when appointed to carry out the landscape masterplanning through to hard and soft landscape construction and planting of the external spaces.
