House at Maresme, Octavio Mestre Arquitectos Octavio Mestre Arquitectos House

Fourth exemple of these “white houses” collection. Joining in the poetry created by its previously-built sister houses, two volumes cut by a sliver of light, in the style of Gordon Matta Clark, create a dialogue with each other. In the center is the staircase, lit from above and ventilated by the back façade through latticework which, like bronchia, allow the structures to be joined. The house opens up on the ground floor and the back wall towards the adjoining riverbed, while the rest of the bedrooms open out towards the pocket that the house itself creates, in an attempt to not see the neighboring houses. The pool is encased and interwoven in the house as a horizontal piece of the puzzle that the entire house sets out to be. The back wall, with its openings opposite the vertex, and the play of its superimposed blinds completely changes its appearance when opened or closed, all an attempt at radical abstraction. The rear patio, which opens onto all the services, lets the house breathing (which we also learned from Coderch). Without going too far, the window in the staircase cuts back the bronchia to enhance the image.
