Used for relaxation, reading or private time with friends, family and company, conservatories are an age-old tradition that began mostly in Italy and England.  But while the weather in Italy has always permitted conservatories to be outdoors and open to the elements, the inclusion of windows and indoor gardens rose to prominence in England thanks to the rainy and dreary weather.

Conservatories are still a popular option for homes of any size and tend to be an area enjoyed year-round. Here are some of our absolute favourites…

Modern loft-style

Modern Conservatory by WIZJA Modern

It seems as though this homeowner turned what would normally be an attic into a modern-day conservatory with 360-degree views over the green, lush landscape.  With a walk-out balcony on one end, what's not to love?

For an incredibly large-scale, modern conservatory, take a look here for more inspiration!

More traditional in colour palette, decor and structural foundation, this conservatory makes you feel right at home with great furnishings to seat multiple people and hardwood flooring.

If the weather permits, why not make your conservatory into an indoor/outdoor space? The design of this conservatory is brilliant in that the doors can slide all the way across, creating a beautiful set of horizontally-spanning windows.

Here is another great example of floor-to-ceiling sliding doors.

Sleek, simple and beautiful, this conservatory shows the leaps and bounds conservatories have underwent in current years. Floor-to-ceiling windows are never a bad idea—even sitting in a glass room like this during a rainstorm is beautiful and calming..

Industrial and functional

The use of exposed structural steel and speak white surfaces makes this conservatory the perfect combination of industrial and functional, with a full kitchen and dining area to boot!

White-spa oasis

Dark beams and light furnishings are a great combination both inside and outside your home. The inclusion of greenery and indoor plants makes this space relaxing and humble all at once.

Living in an older home can have its charms—why hide them? This designer made the most out of the raw stones and curved arches by including overhead vines and ferns!

White, modern and clean, this Scandinavian-style conservatory looks like something you would find on the wonderful streets of Copenhagen, mid-summer.

A perfect combination of both new and old conservatory concepts. You have arched windows, a lush garden and chic accessories that make you feel as though you've been transported back in time.

For smaller spaces

Coming in all shapes, sizes and budget needs, conservatories offer a lot if you're someone that likes to sit in the sun and read or entertain guests in a natural environment without ever leaving the comfort of your home.

Forget the panes! This seamless and timeless look is a great way to allow natural light to totally infiltrate a home and add some colour to an otherwise minimalist and neutral environment.

Bold and green

Between the dark beams, classic large-tile flooring and traditional wooden furnishings, this conservatory is a classic that exudes bold, green colours from nature and wooden tones from the earth.

For more traditional, smaller homes

Even smaller homes can easily be equipped with fantastic conservatories and depending on the size the construction might only last a few days to a few weeks. Floor-to-ceiling windows are once again seen here and the use of Scandinavian minimalist furnishings provides a great balance.

Conservatories are an age-old tradition that still exists for a reason and with all the types, sizes, colours and designs, it's nearly impossible to not find one you'll truly appreciate. Check these projects out for more great, modern conservatory inspiration!
