The bedroom is most certainly one of the comfiest and most personal rooms in any home.  As the room tends to not be viewed as often publicly as the rest of your home, the design is solely left to the creativity you allow.

One of the larger aspects of any bedroom is the bed, and yes, with bedding and special throws and linens, your bed can easily become a focal point.  However, we're referring to the headboard—another item you can turn into a central design feature in no time!

Luxurious & dramatic

When thinking of the most luxurious and dramatic headboards one can have, we tend to think of buttoned-velour or velvet. Not only are both of these materials soft—but a headboard such as the one pictured here can easily turn into a weekend DIY project.

Upholstered headboards can give the most dramatic and high-quality look, as well as neat, functional features like this dark brown headboard!

Natural materials, hemp, etc;

If you're going for a more rustic, Mediterranean or eclectic-chic feel in your bedroom, than look no further than natural materials such as hemp and sisal-based headboards.

The mini-shelf

We are always big fans of making any special designs and decor functional as well.  So, why not make your headboard into a mini-shelf or half-wall? This can be an easy installation and DIY project, or you can hire a professional to make sure the design sticks for a longer period of time. Add wallpaper or a fresh coat of paint to change it up a bit from time to time.

Rustic & matching

For a more put-together and rustic-country look, any type of wooden headboard can work! This bed frame and headboard work great with the concrete flooring and white-washed exposed bricks in this home.

Feature wall + no headboard

Why even worry about a headboard if you've properly used colour schemes and wall paint to make your walls stick out as a focal point?  In a colourful environment such as this one, a headboard might even take-away from the overall effect!

White, minimalist

Are you someone who likes to keep things simple and avoids trends like they're the plague? We understand—a timeless, minimalist classic like the all-white headboard pictured here is perfect for you. It will make your room look clean, organised and put-together in no time!

Cosy, into the wall

Almost creating the opposite effect of the mini-shelf or half-wall—why not carve out an area of your wall and add double-sided bookshelves on either side of the bed? Not only will this make you feel like you're getting even cosier and safe when climbing into bed, but shelves on either side will keep things organised and add a great feature.

If function and storage are a concern for you, then check out this extended headboard with plenty of room for storage.

Intricate & worldly

If colour and worldly accessories make you happiest, then look no further than this cladded headboard! The best part about headboards Iike these is that with a simple coat or two of high-quality spray paint, you can completely change the look of your entire room. Why not try gold, or any metallic paint, to really make it stand out?

Canopy-mixed

A canopy bed has typically been reserved for little children and nursery settings—however, there is absolutely no problem with applying them to your own adult space for a more romantic, cosy and chic feel. We suggest sticking with whites or neutrals as not to take away from the space you have to work with!

Versailles-inspired

Closest in relation to our first option—this headboard is as grand and luxurious as they come.  Especially with the use of purple (which was the preferred colour of royals because deep purple was the hardest colour to achieve through hand-dying techniques) you won't ever be disappointed.
