San Isidro’s fashionable neighbourhood is spread over the banks of Río de la Plata. This oasis of calmness lies in the outskirts of Buenos Aires. It is often considered one of the most affluent areas of the country. However, the real attraction of San Isidro lies in its natural, cultural and architectural wealth.

The neo-gothic structure of San Isidro Cathedral towers above its surrounding buildings. Tren de la Costa’s suburban railway station retains some of its vintage touch. There is no dearth of stylish modern structures in this part of the city either.

Family Houses have chosen San Isidro as their base. They have dedicated themselves to developing residential projects in and around the city, but their designs boast an unexpectedly international outlook. At the same time they have managed to incorporate elements that are true to the land. Today we will take a look inside La Casa del Rio—or The River House—planned by them.

The River House from outside

The River House stands at the edge of Río de la Plata. A combination of materials, from stone to wood, has been employed to decorate its exterior. It is further defined by clean lines and subtle tones which are in line with the contemporary design ideals.

A charming pergola acts as a bridge between the garden, swimming pool complex and the building itself.

Welcoming entrance

A portico, ornately decorated with stone, creates a charming entrance. It is finely stylised with a wooden pier. Fashionable lining fixtures brightly light up the area. A few palm species and other plants decorate the sideways and the area beside the main door.

Living room

This living room is designed for family get togethers and weekend meetings as well as for entertaining the guests. Comfort of the occupants has got precedence here. Stone accents decorate the feature wall. A simple sectional sofa adorns this space. A stylish chair upholstered in red seems to add an element of cheer, and the same fabric is used to upholster a couple of the cushions as well.

A simple and geometric coffee table occupies the central spot, whereas flower vases and lighting fixtures beautify the space.

Kitchen

The kitchen is small in size and is mostly occupied by an elaborate kitchen counter and storage units. Small sliding windows strive to keep the space well ventilated. Wall mounted storage units and shelves cover half of the space designated for this contemporary kitchen

The appliances in use are according to the needs of a modern householder. With its sheer presence, a trendy linear suspension lighting fixture brightens up the entire space.

Bathroom

Along with a guest suite, the main bedroom suite is located on the first floor. It has an integrated spa with a sauna, hot tub and a Scottish shower in a compartmentalised bathroom. The colour scheme, dominated by white, is only interrupted by the welcoming introduction of warm wood.

The spacious bathroom features wood flooring, wooden shelves and a few other rustic elements like rattan baskets. Courtesy of multiple large windows, the interior receives generous amount of natural light during daytime. Tartan curtains,a somewhat unusual choice for a space like this, adds colour and personality.

Balcony and gym

The small en suite balcony is one of the many assets of La Casa del Rio. A view of the river and beyond can be obtained from this space. Large sliding glass windows, covering three sides of this balcony, allow natural light and moist air to flow through the building.

A fully fitted gym is also built in this elegant and airy space. With facilities like this, daily exercises would no longer be a routine to dread. And if not in the mood for anything else, occupants of the The River House can sit on the chair and enjoy the ebb and flow of the river, framed by the views of an ever expanding cityscape.
