There's something about a nook that just quiets and humbles us. Maybe it's because we feel like we're sectioned off from the world when we're in one, but whatever the reason, we love them and we want to ignite that same feeling in you!

Whether you're thinking about redecorating your nook or creating one from scratch, our 11 cosy nooks will offer something for everyone for whatever your relaxation needs might be. And we don't just go over the ordinary reading nook. We have nook ideas for almost every room in the home, and even a couple that lie outside.

So gather your extra pillows and throws and get ready to have the hideaway of your dreams!

1. Soaking up the sun

Our first nook takes advantage of all the glorious sun has to offer. Placed next to a giant window, this nook can be used to quietly observe nature or take a quit midday snooze while listening to the distant sounds of birds chirping and leaves rustling.

2. Practical reading nook

Reading nooks are wonderful things. They give us a quiet space to be transported into the fantastic world of literature. But what reading nook would be complete without a built-in bookshelf? This is super practical for a quick switch between novels and it frees up some space on your other shelves for knickknacks and pictures.

3. The industrial style

Love the industrial style or just have some old wooden crates to re-purpose? Then check out this nook! A thick mattress with plush pillows adorn this crate. And better yet, it's even on wheels, so you can move it around to another small corner of the home whenever you see fit to change appearances.

4. Bedroom/office combo nook

Narrow homes need innovative solutions, and this one does it best with a combination bedroom and office space. To keep it more private, a storage wall was placed on one side, creating a nice alcove to relax after you're done crunching the numbers for the day.

5. Nooks for the garden

When it comes to relaxation, nothing can be more tranquil than the great outdoors. So that means a nook in the garden will be one of the cosiest places you could have. This area is closed off by a unique wooden wall and also sits atop a timber platform, so it really is a separate entity from the rest of the yard. A dining table would be welcome here, but let's not forget about the comfort a sitting bench would provide.

6. A hideaway out in the open

Cosy nooks aren't always about hiding away from the rest of the home. Sometimes you can take a retreat right out in the open! This nook wasn't designed for the casual read (although of course it can be used as such), but was designed as a social area–a place where guests can sit together and chat while waiting for the host to prepare a lovely home-cooked meal.

7. Under the stairs

The area underneath our stairs is highly unutilised space, so why not fashion a cute nook out of it? This home makes the most out of every inch of space and put a bed underneath. These kids will definitely feel cooler sleeping in this bedroom–almost like hiding away in a secret cave. And with designs like this, lighting is of the utmost importance. How can your child go to bed with a good book when he doesn't have a suitable lamp?

8. A bay window

Bay windows were designed to become cosy nooks for homeowners. This bay window incorporates a small bookshelf right inside, plus plenty of padding for late-night book reading.

9. A breakfast nook

We couldn't talk about the cosiest nooks without including the ever-popular breakfast nook. This teeny hideaway is great for brunch with large parties and has a design that allows everyone to see and communicate with each other easily.

10. For the loft

Apartments with loft space can be tricky to use. When the ceiling slants and part of your room is cut off, you need to figure out a practical solution for what you'll do in this space. This home figured it out perfectly. Incorporating a small mat to lie down on is just the thing you need when you can't stand up all the way. And the bench across from it also provides more seating space. This would be a great play area for children, or perhaps a nice lounge where you can have book club meetings.

11. What about a gym?

Okay, we realise this last idea isn't exactly for relaxation, but how could we resist showing you such a tiny treat! This small garage space is too tiny to comfortably fit a car. So what did these homeowners do? They converted it to fit their preferences and made an at-home gym. This just proves that the small nooks and crannies in your home mustn't be ignored. After all, you'd be missing out on some really handy relaxation and health zones!
