Nowadays, with the abundance of tips, reviews, guides and videos available at the click of a mouse we can find information on virtually anything we want, and we can be a truly self-taught. So why not give a few home improvements a go?

There are lots of advantages: first you can save money, second you have the opportunity to create something unique and personal, and thirdly it can be therapeutic because you forget about everyday problems and stresses by focusing on the project.

If you feel like filling your spare time with something rewarding, and renovating your home environment a little, then you have opened the right page! Today we’re covering five DIY ideas that’ll improve the ambience of your home. The good news is we’ve intentionally compiled a list of inexpensive projects, so if you have some tools and a little paint they shouldn’t cost much at all! Let’s begin…

1. Little things can transform a space

By arranging, cleaning and repainting the space, you can transform the look of your environment with relative ease. An act as simple as changing the light fixtures can give a room a new lease on life.

2. Spruce up your walls with decorative shelving

A DIY project can be as simple and as minimalist as this!  You don’t even need a whole pallet, just a strip, to create a shelf that can become an attractive decorative feature on your wall at minimal cost! Here they opted for two simple cacti, but framed photographs or candles will look beautiful too.

3. Breathe life back into an old piece of furniture

Everyone has an old piece of furniture that they’re not so fond of, either because it was a hasty purchase or because it’s old and doesn’t suit the space, but don’t throw it away yet! Give it another opportunity to shine in your home with a fresh coat of paint and some new handles—accessories that you easily find in any DIY store. There’s no doubt that a refurbished piece of furniture will renew the ambience of your home; furniture with history is furniture with soul!

4. Bring life into your bathroom

Do you live in a rented house limiting your ability to change the bathroom? With a young, dried tree or a large dry branch you can create a delightful place to hang your towels without attaching anything to the walls.

5. Build a herb garden in your kitchen

Attach some old fruit boxes to your kitchen walls after lining the bottom with waterproof material, fill them with earth and aromatic herbs—parsley, coriander, basil, rosemary – and voila! You have your own handy herb garden. You can go one step further and paint the wall with chalkboard paint and label the plants like the landscape designers did in the photo above.
