It’s hard to imagine how quaint and concrete could be used to describe the same façade, yet the expert designers at Nobuyoshi Hayashi have pulled it off. The gable style might remind you of a tiny cottage in the woods, yet its concrete construction feels urban. The result is a diffusion of style, technique, and material that you never thought was possible. What’s more is that this home’s geometric interior is warm and undoubtedly stunning. The images in this virtual tour will have the architects among you enamoured with the beauty of this detail-oriented, angular aesthetic. For the rest of you, come bask in the airiness and sheer liveability of the design. The lovely earthen colour scheme works splendidly with the lush green foliage surrounding the exterior. There is truly something for everyone to enjoy in this Japanese gable house. Come with us as we explore!

Creativity through contradiction

The exterior is likely already peaking your interest. The creativity of this design team is already apparent in their use of seemingly contradicting materials for such a toytown type design as the gable structure. Still the colouring of the clouded grey concrete works against the muted blue sky and amber light radiating out from the exterior. The wooden door is an interesting addition that lends credence to what we will encounter on the other side.

Cohesive colouring

The ribbed wooden ceiling and overall symmetry of this space are reminiscent of traditional Japanese style design. The colour scheme is interesting too, as the wooden dining room table helps to bind the ceiling to the home more succinctly. The red flooring and lavender feature wall are excellent touches in this serene space. Even the lush greenery of the outdoors seems to be intentionally framed in the very structure of this home.

A colour palette to love

Without the black kitchen backsplash in the image, the room takes on a new sort of lightness. The colour scheme is truly phenomenal. We love the combination of the cherry wood floor and the lavender wall in particular. Even though the wood present in the space is eclectic, it works here. Each shade only adds to the overall colour palette. The gold accented light and cream coloured chair complete the look.

Serenity in detail

The well thought out geometry of this home is exposed through this depth of field camera shot. The way the light is able to circulate even into small nooks like these is truly remarkable. The prevailing colour scheme in this space is soft and the wooden floor keeps the space grounded. Overall, the home exudes a sense of serenity, and it’s because of small details like these.

The truly avant-garde

This staircase is like nothing we've ever seen. It blends the traditional with the modern in much the same way that the home’s façade does. The first portion of the steps is quite modern. Each step almost appears to be floating and the bannister is avant-garde in style. Yet the top three steps are simple and conventional. How fascinating! The light and shadow created in this space also makes for a wonderful mixture of pale blues, greys, whites and beiges with the cherry wood as an accent.
