This brilliant apartment by Brazilian designers at Isabela Canaan Arquitetos e Associados features their usual opulent and expansive brand of interior design but with an interesting twist. This abode features a multitude of Asian inspired aesthetic details. The most interesting examples of this are those whose inspiration lies in Asian influences rather than blatant emulation. It is fascinating to explore the way this skilled team of designers were influenced by the histories of Japan and Thailand. Of course we also see displays of Isabela Canaan Arquitetos e Associados characteristic style of design including the use of reflective materials to create a sense of opulence. From simple use of symmetry and clean lines to more grandiose expressions of décor, this home certainly tells a story of cultural diffusion. Let's see how this type of apartment design performs on our tour of Apartamento GL.

Japanese rendition of interior symmetry

In the first room on our tour we can already see the ways that this design team blends Asian aesthetics with their own unique style of interior design. The clean lines and symmetry of the furniture arrangement is strongly reminiscent of Japanese aesthetic trends. Specifically, the table and chairs are organised in such a way that they enhance the symmetry and energy of the room. Meanwhile the use of rich wooden tones and fuchsia upholstery speak to the designers' own style.

A common thread of opulence

In the living area we are reminded of Isabela Canaan’s inclination towards opulence. The room is spacious and we see another large dining table, a testament to the largess of the home. There is a golden Oriental rug on the floor and a beautiful large crystal chandelier hanging over the dining table. These two interior details unite the space in the luxury they bring.

Feng Shui in the bedroom

Save for the television, this bedroom is arranged very much in a Feng Shui fashion. The bedroom is simple and symmetrical. The accented wall acts as a headboard. Another important element of Fen Shui present in this room is the fact that the bed is arranged adjacent to the doorway. We love the combination of cream tones with the various earthy shades of green employed in this space. Altogether this bedroom is both lavish and relaxing.

All things sumptuous

This beautiful bathroom echoes the same earthen hues and patterns that we have seen in the other rooms. This time in particular it takes the form of rich chocolate brown and gold. The deep purple hand towel acts as the perfect colour accent. The figures on the wall appear to be wearing traditional Thai garb. Meanwhile the use of marble in this bathroom is very much in line with the designers’ trademark style of sumptuous design.

Final touches of Japanese style design

Finally, the small study nook represents some quintessential aspects of Japanese design, which is minimalist and concerned with the use of light and space. The single orchid flower speaks volumes as the singular decoration in the space, much to the likes of Japanese interior décor. The chair’s formation is in the likeness of the traditional Japanese katsuzumi drum.
