With 2016 drawing to a close we’re starting to look ahead to the coming year, and ponder the changes it may bring. A new year means new trends and styles, and perhaps a change in conventions we’ve come to think of as the norm.
With this in mind today we’re going to focus on the bedroom, as we run through the design trends we think will be important in 2017.
So before you go redecorating your bedroom, these are the bedroom design trends you need to know about…
The more daring bedroom décor of the coming year will likely take the form of eccentric wallpaper that we predict will be all the rage.
In recent years interior designers seem to have moved toward breaking down barriers between spaces, with open-plan designs becoming increasingly popular. We predict that this tend towards fluid, open spaces will continue; manifesting itself in bedroom design with the prevalence of large windows and glass panels.
The modern world is filled with multi-functional design—remember when a phone was just a phone – and we predict the bedroom will become part of this trend. Expect to see the bedrooms of 2017 doubling as another space such as a study, with more multi-functional furniture.
Many think a neutral colour pallet will be popular in bedroom design this year, but for those opting for darker décor, dark green will be a common colour choice.
Creative headboards will increase in popularity in the coming year providing a focal point for the bedroom, as well as adding individuality and character. However, we predict upholstered headboards, as opposed to wood, will be the more sought after option of 2017.
Can we finally say goodbye to ‘keep calm and carry on’? Well, we can only hope this painfully over used sentence will fade from walls, mugs, clothing, cushions and everything else its covered in the past few years, but generally we expect the trend towards quote artworks will decline.
As we collectively become more environmentally conscious, reclaimed wood – despite its cost – is becoming increasingly popular. The bedrooms of 2017 will begin to fill with furniture forged from old wood.
Mixing classic and contemporary styles in the bedroom will become increasingly popular in the coming year, as we see more style fusions that refuse to adhere to previous conventions.
