When it comes designing and decorating any area of the home it’s important to do it in such a way that’s special and unique to you. The home is your personal space and as such should reflect your individual character and most importantly, it should be designed so as to maximise your comfort – after all, you’re inevitably going to spend a lot of time there!

Of all the rooms in the home, the bedroom is perhaps the most personal. As such, it’s particularly important to customise it in a way that’s special to you. But how do we do this?

Today we’re running through a few of the ways that you can make your bedroom unique, so read on and find out how…

1. Build your own furniture

One means of providing your bedroom with an undeniably personal touch is to build your own furniture. You don’t have to be a professional carpenter either! Pallets can be used to create simple cost effective bedroom furniture such as the bed pictured above, but sometimes a simple coat of paint or the addition of a few homemade shelves can add the necessary personal touch.

2. Introduce some greenery

Bring a few potted plants into the bedroom to brighten up the space and give it a more personal touch. Hanging baskets in particular can really change the look of the room.

3. Create a bed canopy

Creating a canopy to cover your bed can introduce a wonderfully whimsical element to your bedroom with relative ease. Creating a canopy can be as simple as carefully hanging a bit of cloth.

4. Give your bedroom a gallery wall

Picture this: a wall devoted almost entirely to framed art or photos. A gallery wall will give your room a highly personal focal point.

5. Paint a mural

Alternatively, you could go one step further and paint a mural directly onto the wall.

6. Make the headboard a creative feature

With a little creative design the bed’s headboard can become a great feature in any bedroom, as in the room pictured above where circular cuts of wood adorn the wall behind the bed.

7. Creative lighting

Last but not least experimenting with creative lighting can completely change the ambiance of the space and thus personalise your bedroom. This can be done so as to create an effect similar to that of fairly lights as in the example above, or by playing with shadow through an altered lamp shade or cover.
