We often talk about the importance of incorporating the natural environment into the design of your home, and today's fantastic one-storey house is exactly what we're talking about. Designed to work in complete harmony with its gorgeous country surroundings, this home filled with natural woodgrains and warm hues is a stunning example of what's possible when our fantastic homify experts work their magic.

With a humble and unassuming exterior, its clever use of space lends it an airy interior that never feels cramped, with a living area completely flooded in sunshine. Replete with all of the modern technology and conveniences of the 21st century, this home still has a quaint country vibe that we think is captivating.

Now let's get a closer look!

A modern exterior

The exterior is a contemporary upgrade on your classic country cottage. With with plenty of windows in the living areas providing a stunning vista of the adjacent farm, the traditional style is contrasted by a modern colour palette and sleek materials.

Notice how the roof extends in the centre of the home, providing extra height in the living area allowing good air circulation, and an extra boost of sunlight.

The living room

We think you'll agree that the woodgrain ceiling looks absolutely charming, providing an organic feel that perfectly encapsulates the picturesque area. You can see how effective that extended ceiling is, making the room feel substantially bigger, and allowing it to cool off in the summer months.

Sliding doors lead to a patio area for relaxing in the sun, and the ample windows allow the sun to beam right through the house.

An experiment in depth

Here we can see small adjustments to a classic form that make a huge difference. The window box extends out, reducing the need for furniture, and casting a warm glow. The use of the rafters and wooden frame in traditional Japanese style, further enhanced by the white walls, looks enchanting.

From this angle the ceiling produces a unique effect, offsetting the lines of the sloping wooden ceiling in a modernist approach to architecture.

A touch of colour

Here we start to get an idea of the direction the interior decorators will go in when this home is occupied, with a bold red door that develops the country theme.

The architects have included plenty of storage space in a unit that delineates the area without imposing on the room. We can also see the flexible light fixtures, which will create unique and dynamic shadows come nightfall.

The kitchen

This classic kitchen harkens back to the seventies with it's colour scheme, but the fittings are all entirely modern. The cabinets are simple, filling every inch of space around the appliances to ensure you always have enough storage, keeping this small room uncluttered and tidy. It's neat, compact, and looks outstanding.

The bathroom

The woodgrain completely takes over here, creating a log cabin feel that makes every trip to the bathroom a holiday. The wood reflects a faint pink hue that's really warm and cosy, while the furniture and utilities are sparse and simple to make the most of the space. The high window ensures privacy, while also letting plenty of light in, which is important in a room that can otherwise end up dank and musty. Notice how the bathroom extends into a fabulously modern bath area; truly luxurious!

We bet this charming country cottage has you thinking about the possibilities for your own home, so to get more inspiration check out this Scandinavian masterpiece!
