No matter how much effort and money we put into designing our home's interior, it is all in vain if we have not also accounted for how we are going to keep it organised. A fabulous room becomes a nightmare swarmed over by clutter and things not put in their place. It's also not so easy to think of all the organising solutions your home needs at once when you are also trying to plan it.

This is why homify has done a bit of it for you with this article giving fifteen easy tips for keeping your home as orderly, tidy and as comfortable and stylish as can be. Perhaps you already know that storage plays an essential part, and you'd be right, as our first tip regards storage shelving in unconventional places. Read on!

1. Storage in unlikely places

As you probably know, an appropriate amount of storage is key in keeping a tidy home. But aside from conventional storage like bookshelves and cupboards, adding built-in shelves in unlikely places like under the stairs or in a niche wall is great for saving space and giving yourself an extra place for knick knacks, extra linen or special cutlery.

2. Create order in your drawers

A completely free and easy way to organise is to put order back into your drawers. Even if they are not immediately visible, disorderly drawers can bring disorder to your life.

Marshalling kitchen drawers often means wiping down spice jars and lining them up neatly. If you have that infamous junk drawer, you can use shoe boxes or cardboard flaps as organisers or go in for a store-bought drawer organiser.

3. Keep sets of things together

If you have a lot of linen or towel sets, tie them together using pretty string to prevent them from getting separated from one another or lost. All bundled up this way on a shelf looks much neater than smashed in willy nilly.

4. Organise your bookshelves

First take all the books and decor off your bookshelf to give the shelf and books a good dusting. Then, put everything back in an organised--e.g. ordering book alphabetically or by subject.

5. Under-bed storage

Store out of season clothes and things not needed immediately under the bed. Use several, medium-sized, flat cloth boxes with tops or install a nice, wide wooden pull-out drawer.

6. Use the high corners

Don't overlook the corners for organising possibilities; shelves or hanging baskets are top solutions places for keeping bottles or medicine. Especially if you are tight on space or have a little one, hitching up shelving off the ground is best.

7. Invest in some binders

It is time to do something about all those loose documents or instruction manuals. Get several binders in a colour that matches your room's decor, sort your documents inside and watch your life get easier!

8. Wardrobe boxes

Having only hangers in your closet makes organising more of a drawer. For socks, underwear, belts and other small items, get some quality storage boxes that will look much less cluttered than just throwing these things on a shelf.

9. Get uniform hangers in the closet to decrease the look of chaos

Instead of a chaos of wire and wood and plastic, get rid of the mismatch and opt for a set of uniform, nice quality hangers.

10. Get a magnetic junk wall

New on the organiser scene are these magnetic walls, coming in many designs and often equipped with little shelves as well. So, instead of a junk drawer, put your junk on display--a junk wall!

11. Hang plenty of hooks

Putting up plenty of wall hooks and racks on blank walls for keeping everything from jackets to necklaces to dish towels makes organising your things a cinch.

12. Organise your shoes

Shoes are fun but when you have too many, they can be one of the biggest sources of home disarray, whether they are littering the foyer or your wardrobe. So do get yourself a proper shoe shelf or rack, thin and high so as not to take up too much space.

13. Towels shelving in bathroom

Most of us make do with just a towel rack or hook in the bathroom but if you are interested in a higher level of order, put in a couple of shelves to store extra, fresh towels and washcloths so they are at the ready.

14. Do have a foyer table

Make your front entrance or foyer a place you do not simply walk through to get to the rest of the house. This means simply putting in a table to set things like mail and keys on. What this does is ensure these items are always in one place, rather than several places throughout the home, so you don't lose things!

15. Clear away clutter

The last simple tip: as you are organising yourself, take thoughtful stock of your things, your lifestyle and your needs, and be willing to admit what things you don't actually need. Then, get rid of those things!--because, abiding by all the tips in this article won't do a lick of good if your home is overrun by things you do not need!
