Nishinomiya is one of the most famous places of Japan to go flower viewing. It is delightful to walk down the city’s lanes lined with cherry and pine trees. If you take a stroll on the banks of Arima River after sunset you will be privy to another amazing view, for you will find dancing fireflies lighting up your way.

This beautiful city works as a stunning backdrop for the house we are going to show you today. We can assure you that, though modern in style, its interior is one of a kind. Brace yourself for a very special experience…

Sparkling living room décor

The house, designed May Company & Architects, is built for a couple who wanted to give their home a hotel like feel. This is a favourite theme for many as it has a glamorising effect on the interior without sacrificing the comfort factor. They chose a suitable spot to transform their dream into a reality. As you can see from the living room décor itself, they have really managed to build their dream home.

The space is stylised with dark wood panels, upholstered feature wall and sectional sofa. In the ingenuous placement of ambient and spotlights you may find a hint of Arima riverside, lit up by thousands of fireflies.

Kitchen and dining room

The reasonably spacious kitchen-cum-dining room occupies the basement area. It is fitted with modern cabinets, sophisticated appliances and small kitchen island. The table placed in front is surrounded by cosily upholstered benches and chairs.

The striking contrast of dark brown and warm white tones is primarily responsible for giving this space a rather dramatic feel.

Cosy entertainment area and atrium

The city is famous for producing premium quality saké. Along with their friends, the owners can savour the tastes of the same in this cosy entertainment zone.

It is decorated with a simple counter and chairs upholstered in leather. But the most beautifying element of this part of the house is the charming atrium located in front of it.

Traditional bedroom

A worthy tradition of the Japanese architecture is preserved in this space. Washitsu rooms—a Japanese room with tatami flooring—are generally used for entertaining guests and enjoying a cup of tea together.

This one however, is being used as a relaxing bedroom. Like other parts of the building, ambient lighting illuminates this space as well.

Hallway

In this image you can see the tastefully designed hallway leading up to the kitchen as well as giving access to the other parts of this family dwelling. The flooring is an unusual choice.

Except for a simple bench, the area has not been cluttered with too many objects. Its minimalist nature makes it look more spacious and impressive.

Exterior of the house

Finally, you get to see the façade of the house which, in sync with contemporary design, combines such materials as wood, concrete and glass. It is divided into multiple blocks of varied volumes as well. The house is built on a plot located atop a hill. The gentle slope of the road in front of the building is indicative of the same.

The front yard is decorated with a tiny but charmingly landscaped garden. Closeness with nature has a beautifying effect on the home. Such attention to detail makes its already captivating design all the more praiseworthy.
